Today I wanted to test my new HA5IW SOTA PA for the FT-817ND. At home it was very successful. With 0.5w input it emits 8-9w, with 1.0w input = 15w out. 2.5w in = 25w out.I qualified the Kleeberg (DA/NI-275) with 4 DL => U.S.A. QSO on 10m, then some fun QSOs on 40m i.e. with Tom DL1DVE . I used the MP-1 antenna. Next weekend (wx depending) I will make another test with a small carbon fishing rod.

UNBELIEVABLE – 1st November and an activation in a short-sleeved shirt. We had 20°C on the Piesberg DM/NS-108. This afternoon came 50 QSOs in the log. 3x BPSK and 20 CW QSO on 20m with 25w and a Delta Loop antenna. Then I made QSY to 2m with a 4x Oblong and 40watts for 27 CW QSO. ODX was TMØW for 645km

First tuesday in a month – 144MHz activity evening across Europe. I climbed in really bad wx on the Piesberg (DM/NS-108). 14°C and heavy rain, not good condx, but a lot stations, also from nearby PAØ Netherlands, and nice QSOs. ODX was OZ5W for 426km. Station: 40w out, 4x Oblong, callsign: DLØGMA/p DOK: GMA

We had last Saturday in Germany a short VHF contest from the AGCW-DL. The Activity Group CW. I renewed friday evening my favorite rucksack-portable-antenna: a 4x Oblong designed by DK7ZB and climbed saturday on my local mountain – reference DM/NS-108. With the FT-857 I made between 40 and 20w. Yes, I started with 40w and reduced and reduced. 2h later was the battery flat, 45 QSOs in the log, a new ODX to Hungary and a lot nice talks about HAM Radio with local visitors on the mountain.
There were two S2S (Summit to Summit) contacts: Manfred, DK7ZH/p on DA/HE-033 and Gerhard, DL4TO/p, on DM/BW-100.

After more than 30 years I made my first RTTY QSO this weekend. Not with a loud mechanic machine, but with a modern netbook, software and amateur radio. It was not so easy but I am lucky to log my first stations, also portable from a summit. It was a big fun and I think I will continue this mode …
Mein letztes RTTY QSO liegt etwa 30 Jahre zurück. Damals mit einer Lorenz LO15 und einem Modem, das die Ausmaße meines FT-817 und eines Netbooks zusammen übertraf.
Gestern, am Karfreitag, habe ich mir endlich die Zeit genommen und die schon seit langem vorhandene Verkabelung für den kleinen YAESU angeschlossen. Aus dem Pool der freien Software habe ich FLDigi gewählt. Natürlich gab es ein paar Schwierigkeiten, bis alles lief. Aber letztendlich konnte ich zufrieden C37URO loggen – mit 5 Watt in RTTY. Mein allererstes PSK-31 QSO klappte kurz darauf mit F2YT.
Abends hatten wir OV Abend und ich erzählte von meinen Erfolgen. Naja – RTTY interessierte nicht so und zu BPSK gab es nur den Kommentar: „Langweiliges F-Tasten-Drücken“.
Heute, am Samstag, bin ich auf „meinen“ Hausberg DM/NS-108 (2,8 Km von meinem QTH, direkter Blick aus dem Wohnzimmer – auch Nachts zu erkennen, wegen der roten Blinklichter auf den Windrädern). Zuerst habe ich auf 40m ein paar CW-QSO für den GMA Punkt gemacht, dann CQ CQ CQ in RTTY. Klappte nicht. Keine Antwort. Eine OK-Station kam sehr stark an … aber mein Rückruf blieb unbeantwortet.
Dann „Mode-Wechsel“ in PSK-31: CQ CQ CQ de DL4MFM/p.
Keine Antwort. Also so langsam macht sich der Frust breit.
Falsche Uhrzeit? Sind 5w doch zu wenig? … Fragen über Fragen.
Dann empfing ich eine sehr starke Station aus Deutschland. Ich antworte …. und BÄNG .. da war das QSO! Da ich noch nicht mit der Software so vertraut war, bin ich einfach auf Sendung gegangn und habe live eingetippt. Dass ich auf SOTA DM/NS-108 sitze, qrp, ….
Da kommt der OM zurück und schreibt: So – Du bist also auf einem Berg in Niedersachsen …
Ha – von wegen F-Tasten- und Mausklickerei!

First Tuesday in a month is a VHF day. That was a nice activity: summer weather, I do not forget anything of my equipment, nothing is broken. The signals were a little weak, but also heard from other stations the same effect. 40 QSO on 2m came into the log, 5 stations from OZ. My equipment was a FT-817 + PA (about 20w) and 4x Oblong antenna by DK7ZB.

Der erste Dienstag im Monat ist UKW Tag. Das Wetter war spitzenmäßig, ich habe kein Teil meiner Ausrüstung vergessen, nichts ist kaputtgegangen. Die Signale waren ein wenig schwach, aber auch von anderen hörte ich, dass sie erst dachten, sich im Datum vertan zu haben. Dennoch sind 40 QSO auf 2m sind in einer guten Stunde ins Log gekommen, davon 5 Stationen aus OZ (Dänemark). Station war ein YAESU FT-817 + PA (ca. 20w) und eine 4x Oblong Antenne nach DK7ZB.

Today I only wanted to qualify this activation for the German Mountain Award. That means: 4 QSO from the summit.
That’s no problem on a first tuesday in a month on 144 MHz, because in a local activity evening (WNA – Westfalen Nord Aktivitätsabend) and in some activity contests, like the Nordic Activity Contest, are many stations qrv.
The WX was mild, 7°C and no wind. The Station was FT-817 ND with a small PA and HB9CV antenna fixed on the walking stick on the outlook tower.

Summit Activation #423 / 23-Feb-2014
| Bei einer kleinen Wanderung um den Piesberg bei herrlichstem Sonnenschein habe ich in der Aktivierungszone die Station aufgebaut und auf 24 MHz abgestimmt. Die Aktivierung war bei SOTA und GMA angekündigt und wurde durch einen RBN Spot gemeldet. Deshalb sind sicher auch 3 DX Chaser aus den USA im Log gelandet. Zudem noch Stationen aus Russland, der Ukraine und aus Deutschland. Und dann ging es auch schon weiter auf den zermatschten Pfaden des ca. 7km langen Rundwanderwegs. | During a short hike around the Piesberg in glorious sunshine I’ve set up the station in the activation zone and tuned to 24 MHz. The activation was announced at SOTA and GMA and was reported by a RBN spot. Therefore, 3 DX chaser from the U.S. came into my log. In addition, more stations from Russia, Ukraine and Germany. Then I continued my hike over mashed paths of the about 7 km long circuit hike. |
