Der Magaliesberg ist eine Gebirgskette westlich von Pretoria in den Provinzen Nordwest und Gauteng. Es gibt dort eine SOTA Referenz, die ist aber nicht der höchste Punkt und schwierig zu aktivieren; denn es handelt sich um ein privates Naturschutzgebiet mit deftigen Warnungen am Gate, das Gelände bloss nicht zu betreten.
The Magaliesberg is a mountain range west of Pretoria in the provinces of North West and Gauteng. There is a SOTA reference that is not the highest point and difficult to activate; there is a private nature reserve with cracking warnings at the gate, not merely to enter the premises.
Eddie (ZS6BNE), Andries (ZS6VL) und ich haben uns also entschlossen den „Highest Point“ zu aktivieren, das ließ sich auch einfacher organisieren, da der „Highest Point“ auf der Nooitgedacht Game Ranch mit dem Ingwe Bush Camp liegt (dort trifft man auf allerlei exotische Tiere).
Am Bushcamp haben wir Colin getroffen. Ein sympathischer junger Mann, wie er bei Daktari mitspielen könnte. Buschhut mit Zebrahutband, am Gürtel eine Pistole tragend, hat er sich geduldig aber interessiert erklären lassen, was Amateurfunk ist und was wir am Berg vorhätten. Nachdem dann jeder 150 Rand (ca. 11,50€) „abgedrückt“ hat, durften wir also los.
Immer wieder kreuzen Paviane unseren Weg und nach etlichen „Gates“ geht es durch den „Busch“ zum Startpunkt
Eddie (ZS6BNE), Andries (ZS6VL) and I have therefore decided to activate the „Highest Point“ that could be even easier to organize, as the „Highest Point“ is on the Nooitgedacht Game Ranch with the Ingwe Bush Camp (where you can meet meet a lot of exotic animals).
At the bushcamp we met Colin. A personable young man as he could play at Daktari. Bushhat with Zebrahatband, on a belt carrying a gun. He listened patiently but interestend what amateur radio is and what we will do on the mountain. Then, after each payed 150 Rand (about € 11.50) , we were allowed to go.

Faszinierend, 40m ist in ZS genauso ruhig, als ob man hier in EU auf 2m SSB funkt. Mit 5w sind dort 4 QSOs kein Problem und so hatte Andries schnell sein Log voll.
Eddie und ich haben abwechselnd auf 10m gefunkt. Wie gewohnt ging zur Mittagszeit das
Band Richtung Europa auf. Als erstes war wieder Uli, DM5EE mit S9+ im Log. Dann
meldete sich noch OM Abraham mit dem exotischen Rufzeichen 9Q5/HJ1NGE aus dem Kongo. Noch ein paar QSO und ich hatte den Berg qualifiziert und habe mich dann zu Eddie und Andries gesellt um zu sehen, wie sie den Funkverkehr abwickeln.
Eddie war ganz begeistert, wieviele Stationen anriefen. Etliche bekannte Chaser-Rufzeichen aus der GMA Gemeinde haben ihn angerufen und sind im Log gelandet. Er meinte, er liebe es mit DLs zu funken, die haben alle eine ausgezeichnete Betriebstechnik.
Fascinating, 40m is in ZS just as calmly like 2m here in EU. With 5w in SSB there are 4 QSOs no problem on a Saturday morning and so Andries had its log fills up quickly.
Eddie and I worked on 10m. As usual the band openend around noon towards Europe. The first QSO was Uli, DM5EE with S9 + in the log. Then OM Abraham answered my CQ with the exotic callsign 9Q5 / HJ1NGE from DR Congo. Another few QSOs and I had qualified the mountain and then I joined Eddie and Andries to see how they handle the QSOs.
Eddie was very excited, how many stations called. Several well-known Chaser callsign from the GMA community have called him. He said that he loved to operate with DLs, because they all operate excellent.
