Summit Activation #583
DM7N, DM/NS-036 Dörenberg 331m asl
WX: sunny, 35°C

Gluthitze.

Fiery heat. Hottest day of the year. Only slowly I crept up the Dörenberg (DM/NS-036). The paths were covered with leaves, like in autumn. The trail was lined with many dried up shrubs and trees with brown, crumpled, leaves. Arrived on the hilltop, 35°C in the shade.

The station is then set up at a snail’s pace. Due to the WNA, many local stations were qrv, which could be „processed“ easily for a start. In addition, there was the usual point adding DX like SK7CY or SK7MW. The conditions seemed to be normal, surprises were SF6F with 708km distance and the French station F4VSG/P for about 500km. Surprising because stations south of the Brussels-Cologne-Kassel line in the Tuesday activity contest from my location are rather rare.

After sunset I could still hear several G-stations quietly, but could not reach any. Also some PA stations were qrv, but they had turned their antennas apparently only to the west, I heard them quietly in the QSO with G stations.

Marconi 144 MHz CW Contest and November 2017 144MHz Activity Contest

Last Saturday and last Tuesday I took part in two different 144 MHz Contests from the same location: Venner Berg (GMA reference DA/NI-096).

Mario, DJ7MH @ DP6A
Mario DL4MFM @ DM7N

The observation tower on the top of the hill served us as a VHF contest location in the 80s and 90s. The antenna on the tower is about 180m above sea level.

While great DX-QSOs are heading south on Saturday, traditionally northern Europe has been reached on the first Tuesday of the month.

Both days I was about 1h qrv and made together 50 QSO.

Herbst UKW: AGCW, GMAC, NAC

Activity Contests – First Tuesday – Dörenberg DM/NS-036

This month we started the GMAC – Global Mountain Activity Contest. That means, GMA takes part in the „first-tuesday-in-a-month“ 144 MHz contests. But – you have to enter from a GMA summit. Exchange is report and QTH-locator.

For the first entry (after a software test-phase) I used our clubcall DL0GMA. Location was the well known Hermansturm outlook tower – the highest point in our county – on the Dörenberg in the Teutoburg Forest.

In very bad weather I managed 71 QSOs with FT857D (35W) and a 5 ele DK7ZB Yagi.

The evening began dry, then fog came up, later drizzle and then rain. But it was a lot of fun. Also again with other visitors on that tower, who were curious what I am doing …

Summit Activation #502

Already in the morning reported Radio NDR 1 Lower Saxony temperature for Braunlage (Harz) 3 ° C and on the Wurmberg (highest summit in Lower Saxony, ~ 1000m) with 14 ° C.

The inversion made hopes for great conditions on 144 MHz on Tuesday evening, 3rd November.

My station was, as in the past VHF activations, a FT-817 plus ~ 25W power amplifier fed by

two LiPo batteries. The antenna was a 5 element Yagi DK7ZB.

After my first check of the band: it will be a special evening. SK7MW with S9 +; OZ1ALS took almost 30 kHz bandwidth for its S9 ++++ signal. QRM, babbling, splattering, gargling – as in the SSB portion of the 40m band. Great! At the first ‚turn over to the QRG 144 195 MHz, on which I usually call CQ, I just logged my first LA station. Even with well over S9.
The antenna was all the time simply turned to the north and to my CQ calls many SM, OZ and LA stations anwered. In the log are even more SMs as DLs.

In addition to a „new country“ I also made my personal 2m ODX: SK0EN in JO99JX with 1078km.

First Tuesday in a Month-Contests: I walked yesterday evening on my „Hausberg“ Piesberg (DM/NS-108) just to make a few QSOs for GMA-scoring (German Mountain Award). But there were good VHF conditions and I told my „neighbor“ Klaus, DH5KLI, on DA/NI-096, that I will make 20 QSO and then go to the grocery. But suddenly I had more than 20 QSO, okay – 30 and then QRT, 40 …. 50) After only an hour I had more than 50 Qs in the log. A successfull evening on 144 MHz … next month again.

06-JAN-2015 – WNA – DA/NI-096 Venner Berg

A lot of VHF contests are on the first tuesday in a month across Europe. Tonight Klaus, DH5KLI, and I met on the „Venner Berg“ (GMA DA/NI-096). Also Christian, DO7AG, joined us. We installed 2 (!) 144 MHz stations in a distance of about 50m. I was on the 20m high outlook tower with 4x Oblong and FT 817 plus PA ~25w output. Klaus used at the car park a FT 897 with 20w and also a 4xOblong. Of course we had problems with interferences but funnily other station in umpteen 10km distance caused more problems! ODX of Klaus and me was SK7MW near Malmö with an ODX of 466km. WX: dry, overcast, 2°C.

11-JAN-2015 – DARC 10m Contest – DM/NS-108 Piesberg

In the DARC 10m Contest I only wanted to check my portable station for upcoming holidays and try a new antenna. WX was dry but cold and very very stormy. At 10:10 UTC was the station ready and I started my first CQ. After a short time were 10 stations in the log. After 10 QSO I wanted to QSY to 40m but a lot of stations called and so I made qrt after 20 QSOs. Surprisingly only a few stations from Germany were in the log.

In the North I heard a thunder storm and so I decided to make QRT. I will test the new multiband-dipole next weekend.
Quick I packed the rucksack and left the stormy summit. When I was back at the car it started raining …

First tuesday in a month – 144MHz activity evening across Europe. I climbed in really bad wx on the Piesberg (DM/NS-108). 14°C and heavy rain, not good condx, but a lot stations, also from nearby PAØ Netherlands, and nice QSOs. ODX was OZ5W for 426km. Station: 40w out, 4x Oblong, callsign: DLØGMA/p DOK: GMA
